I made the following announcement today to the WordPress Meetup group I run here in the seacoast NH area.

Since our first meetup in January 2011, our little meetup has grown and flourished. Many folks have learned a lot about WordPress – how to use it, how not to use it, how to extend and modify it, how to run a business site with it, and even how to run a WordPress business. Friendships and connections have been made. Our meetup has served both users and developers in the community.
I’m very excited to announce that, starting in February, this is going to get a whole lot easier as we are adding an additional meetup each month. Our 1st Wed of the month meetup will now be a Developers meetup geared towards topics of interest to software and web developer types who are extending WordPress through code. A new Users meetup will be added on the 2nd Thursday of each month geared towards topics of interest to WordPress users. This new Users meetup will be run by Carl Eric Johnson whom many of you know as a regular attendee and contributor to our meetups.
I urge you not to think of this as a split, but as a multiplying of opportunities to learn about WordPress. As always, everyone will continue to be welcome at both meetups. And both types of meetups will continue to be under our same Meetup group on Meetup.com. Adding an extra monthly meetup though will allow us to pursue more topics of interest to each group. It also allows folks who can’t make one night or another to have another chance to learn about WordPress and connect with other WordPressers.
Our next Developers meetup is on Wed Jan 29, 2014. We’re doing a knowledge share on HTML5 and CSS3.
